In the spirit of broad campus involvement in the eighth annual Chancellor's Challenge 5-K Run/Walk for Scholars, I am personally inviting each of you to join me in this year's Challenge to be held on the UCSD campus October 24, 2003. I officially take my new post at the Office of the President on October 2, 2003, but be assured I will be back at UCSD to participate in the race.

Since I first launched the event in 1996, the Chancellor's Challenge has raised over $850,000 for nearly 450 undergraduate scholarships. We look forward to building on that success on Friday, October 24th.
