ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    New Office of International Academic Exchange and Protocol

The Institute for International, Comparative, and Area Studies (IICAS) announces the creation of the Office of International Academic Exchange and Protocol (IEAP) and the appointment of Ahren Crickard as Assistant Director in charge of the Office. The Office of International Academic Exchange and Protocol (IAEP) will serve UCSD in the following ways:

Coordination, monitoring, and promotion of UCSD's international links:

IAEP will develop and coordinate UCSD-wide affiliation, cooperation, and exchange agreements with universities and research institutions outside the United States. IAEP will review and respond to proposals for international cooperative agreements with UCSD, insuring that the appropriate units at UCSD are informed of such proposals. It will also serve as the office of record for such agreements. In this role, IICAS will assume responsibilities previously held by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.

At the request of schools, departments, ORUs, and individual faculty, Assistant Director Crickard and I will assist in the initiation and renewal of international agreements. IAEP will also build and maintain a database on existing UCSD international programs and links that will be available to the UCSD community. You are asked to send information on current international exchange relationships to Assistant Director Crickard for inclusion in this database.

University liaison with short-term international visitors to multiple units at UCSD:

IAEP directs international protocol for UCSD. It assists in welcoming short-term international visitors and planning their visits to multiple units at UCSD. On request, the Assistant Director will also collaborate with senior administrators and faculty in planning and implementing their visits outside the United States on behalf of UCSD.

Further information and assistance may be obtained from Ahren Crickard, Assistant Director, IICAS/IAEP, acrickard@ucsd.edu, x21828, mailcode 0539.
