SUBJECT:    THE UCSD OFFICE OF ADMISSIONS AND RELATIONS WITH SCHOOLS HOSTS ADMIT DAY ON SATURDAY, APRIL 17, 2004

Admitted freshmen and their families will "Discover UCSD!" on Admit Day, Saturday, April 17 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. This event is an opportunity to showcase the UCSD campus, its academic departments, services and student organizations during the students' important college decision-making period. Admit Day typically draws up to 15,000 visitors to UCSD to attend presentations on a variety of university-related topics, visit their undergraduate college, talk with students and faculty, and tour the campus.

The day will open with a series of Welcome Sessions led by Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services, and Nathan Evans, Associate Director of Admissions and Relations with Schools. Visitors will also be greeted at each Welcome Session by Dr. Joseph Watson, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs; and Jeremy Paul Gallagher, Associated Students President. The six undergraduate colleges will then host guests in college overview sessions designed to introduce students and their parents to the college and its academic and extracurricular opportunities. Each will also host activities and festivities to give visitors a glimpse of college life, and offer newly admitted students a chance to chat with current students.

Campus tours and residence hall tours will be held throughout the day, along with tours of RIMAC and various academic departments. Prospective students can meet representatives from academic departments, student support services and student organizations at an Information Fair along Library Walk. Ongoing information sessions in Center Hall will cover housing and dining services, money matters, majors, athletics and campus life. Faculty members from a variety of departments will discuss academic expectations, the many ways that students and faculty can interact, and opportunities for student involvement in faculty research.

Admit Day offers an exciting opportunity for admitted freshmen and their parents to meet with our faculty, staff, students and college administrators. The event provides the campus community with the chance to welcome these students to campus, and to show them why UCSD is such an outstanding university. Students continue to tell us that their decision to attend UCSD was solidified after having such a positive experience on Admit Day.
