SUBJECT:    March of Dimes 34th Walk America

The March of Dimes will hold its 34th WalkAmerica on Saturday, April 24th, 2004 in Balboa Park. The 5 mile walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the west (Laurel Street) entrance of the Park. The purpose of this event is to raise money for research and educational programs and materials related to preventing and treating premature births. 1 out of 8 premature births will occur in California. In previous years The March of Dimes has contributed millions of dollars to the San Diego community and over $500,000 to UCSD, primarily for research, patient and provider education, and patient care services.

All faculty and staff are invited to participate in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica by joining TEAM UCSD.

Prior to the start of the walk, a free continental breakfast will be provided compliments of Aramark. Following the walk there will be additional refreshments provided to walkers. There will also be informational booths and entertainment for you, and your family's, enjoyment. The March of Dimes anticipates 3,000 - 4,000 walkers at the total event and we hope to have 250 walkers for TEAM UCSD. All walkers for Team UCSD will receive a TEAM UCSD T-Shirt. In addition there will be prizes for the 4 group leaders with the greatest amount of money raised.

If you are interested in participating in this fun and worthwhile event, please contact Linda Levy (619-543-6585), Victoria Powell (858-822-4485), or Tracey Dalton (629-543-6585) for walker registration forms and additional information.
