SUBJECT:    13th Annual San Diego Heart Walk

The American Heart Association will hold its 13th annual San Diego Heart Walk on Saturday, September 18th, 2004 in Balboa Park. The 5K walk will begin at 7:30 a.m. The purpose of this event is to raise money for research and community educational programs related to preventing heart disease and stroke, America's #1 and #3 killers of adults. Over the last seven years, The American Heart Association has funded more than $22 million to local San Diego community organizations. Last year, UCSD was the recipient of $1.4 million, primarily for research.

All faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Heart Walk by joining TEAM UCSD.

Prior to the start of the walk, a free heart healthy continental breakfast will be provided compliments of Aramark. Following the walk there will be additional refreshments provided to walkers. There will also be informational booths and entertainment for you and your family's, enjoyment. The American Heart Association anticipates 8,000 walkers at the event and we hope to have 1,000 walkers for TEAM UCSD. All walkers for Team UCSD will receive a free Team UCSD T-Shirt. In addition, prizes will be awarded for several categories of fund raising achievement.

If you are interested in participating in this fun and worthwhile event, please contact Karen Anspaugh (619-543-2155), Christine Meyer (619-543-6605), or Vicki Nassar (619-543-3430) for walker registration forms and additional information.
