SUBJECT:    SAVE THE DATE! KIBM Inauguration Reception - Nov. 4

The Inauguration Reception for the Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind (KIBM) will be held late afternoon on Thursday, November 4, 2004.

As you may already know, UCSD has recently been able to create the Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind through a generous contribution from the Kavli Foundation. KIBM's goal is to cross academic disciplines to explore the relationship of the brain's cellular make-up and the resulting behaviors of the mind. The Institute's members will work together to address many of the central questions in the field, such as how genetics influences behavior, how brains repair themselves, the biochemical mechanisms of memory and the neural bases of learning, consciousness, memory and attention.

Our inaugural reception is the first step toward identifying members of the scientific community with a particular interest in the field and bringing them together for informal exchanges of ideas and information. Stay tuned for more details.
