SUBJECT:    Report of the Task Force on Underrepresented Faculty

Dear Colleagues:

In February 2004, a joint Senate/Administration Task Force was convened to review the campus's efforts with respect to the recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty, including opportunities for professional development and academic advancement. The Task Force has completed its review and submitted the report of its findings and recommendations. We are grateful to our colleagues for their leadership and investment of time in this very important work. We have already taken an important first step in response to the Task Force recommendations, with the appointment of Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer Jorge Huerta.

The report is available electronically at the following website:

We encourage you to read this report and hope that you will have an opportunity to study the recommendations and provide comments before the end of February. Input has been requested of the faculty via the Academic Senate and the campus leadership including Academic Senate Chair Don Tuzin, Vice Chancellors Holmes and Kennel, Academic Deans and Department Chairs. You may direct your comments to any of these individuals or to Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer Jorge Huerta at .
