OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR - October 10, 2005
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (excluding UCSD Medical Center)
During the 2005 holiday season, UCSD (excluding the hospitals and clinics) will officially close from December 23 through January 2. The campus closure recognizes the limited working days during the holiday period and the anticipated energy savings from reduced operations. Many UCSD departments will remain open during this time due to their role in supporting essential functions for the campus. Four of the working days during this period are paid holidays (December 23, 26 and 30, and January 2). Staff employees must charge any working days during the closure period not covered by paid holidays to accrued vacation, accrued compensatory time off (non-exempt employees only), or voluntary leave without pay. Academic employees on fiscal year (11-month) appointments must charge the time off to accrued vacation or voluntary leave without pay. Employees who do not have accrued vacation or accrued compensatory time off to cover the three working days during the closure - December 27-29 - may request a one-time advance of up to three days of vacation to cover the period of absence. UCSD departments and units that need to remain open during the closure period must notify their respective vice chancellors to do so. UCSD departments and units that wish to close for an expanded holiday period, e.g., December 19, 2005, through January 2, 2006, must maintain adequate staffing levels to conduct necessary business or provide essential services and will need permission from their respective vice chancellors to close for the additional days (December 19-22). Staff employees with questions regarding the holiday closure should contact Employee Relations, Human Resources Department, at employeerelations@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-4115. Academic employees should contact Tricia Takacs, Academic Personnel Office, at ttakacs@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-2597.
