SUBJECT:    Dedication of Calit2 Building on Friday, Oct 28

On Friday, October 28, 2005, the UCSD campus community is invited to “Collaborate. Innovate. Create” as we celebrate a dramatic new addition to the campus skyline with the dedication of the new building housing the UCSD Division of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2). The six floors of the Calit2 building will house nearly 900 faculty, researchers, staff, and students from more than 20 campus departments working on diverse research initiatives at the intersection of engineering, medicine, science, and the arts.

The dedication ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the new Engineering Courtyard off Warren Mall (where “Bear,” the newest addition to the Stuart Collection, is located). Following the formal program, guests will have the opportunity to explore the 215,000-square-foot facility from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be self-guided tours, research exhibits, student posters, food, and live entertainment throughout the building. Those planning to attend the morning ceremony are asked to register for the event at http://www.calit2.net/UCSDCeremony/. For a listing of other activities to celebrate the Calit2 dedication, see http://www.crca.ucsd.edu/events/Calit2_Opening.

I encourage the UCSD family to attend the dedication of this important new facility and to take advantage of the other activities through the day at Calit2.
