OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR -
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT & PLANNING

December 19, 2005

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (including UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:    Changes in Resource Management & Planning (RMP)

Appointment - Assistant Vice Chancellor-Campus Budget

I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Sylvia Lepe-Askari as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor-Campus Budget. Sylvia replaces Associate Vice Chancellor Margie Pryatel who is retiring from the University. In her new role, Sylvia will serve as the Campus Budget Officer, having primary responsibility for maximizing the resources that are allocated to the campus by the Office of the President. Sylvia began her UCSD career in 1990, serving in Academic Affairs initially and moving on to the Campus Budget Office where she has held various assignments, each with progressively higher responsibility. Over her career here Sylvia has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the budgetary needs and challenges facing the campus, and has demonstrated analytical skill, resourcefulness, and creativity in helping to craft solutions to address these issues. Sylvia has also proven herself to be able manager who has assembled a high-performing, self-motivated staff. Sylvia holds a B.A. in Management Science from UC San Diego and an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from San Diego State University.

Please join me in extending congratulations and best wishes to Sylvia in this pivotal campus leadership position, and thanking Margie for 30 years of distinguished service to UCSD.

Reassignment - Financial Analysis Office

The Financial Analysis Office (FAO) previously overseen by AVC Pryatel has been reassigned to Jeffrey Steindorf, Assistant Vice Chancellor-Campus Planning. FAO, under the direction of Director Bill Brophy, has primary campus responsibility for Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Cost Analysis, Recharge Activities/Rate Review, Capital Debt Management/External Financing, and consultation on Federal Costing issues. The campus will submit its next indirect cost rate proposal in 2008 and planning for those negotiations are just getting underway. Data collection and analysis is a critical step in the indirect cost rate determination for the campus and Jeff's oversight will bring a valuable perspective.

Please join me in thanking Jeff for his willingness to take on this important assignment.

Appointment - Assistant Vice Chancellor-Resource Management & Planning

I am also pleased to annouce that I have appointed Ann Briggs Addo Assistant Vice Chancellor-Resource Management & Planning. Ann will assume the formal "second in command" responsibility for my unit. Ann has been part of RMP since joining the campus 12 years ago. Over that time she has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the campus. She presently serves as my Chief of Staff but is a true campus-wide resource and has a leadership role on many important campuswide initiatives. Ann holds a B.S. in Management and Organizations from Indiana University and an M.B.A. from San Diego State University.

Please join me in extending congratulations to Ann in her new role.
