The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and the University of California, San Diego, have been deeply saddened by the loss of Professor Emeritus Bruno H. Zimm. Professor Zimm passed away on Saturday, November 26th from pneumonia, following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. An expert in the physical chemistry of DNA, he won numerous medals and awards. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 1958 and to the American Academy of Sciences in 1969. He was a founding member and former Chair (1966-1968) of the UCSD Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. A cherished colleague and mentor of many students who went on to illustrious careers, he will be greatly missed. A memorial gathering will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13th, in the Large Conference Room of the Center for Molecular Genetics. All members of the general UCSD community are welcome. Light refreshments will follow.
