SUBJECT:    Geisel Library Entrance

The detachment of two small chunks of concrete from support beams at Geisel Library has necessitated modified, temporary entrances to the building.

One of the brick-sized pieces fell to the Geisel Library Forum level (third floor)-a 60-foot drop-a year ago, and the second on November 25, 2005. Until an evaluation of damage is completed, a 50-foot long covered walkway has been erected at the library's main entrance and new exits have been established for emergency evacuation. The Forum has been closed off with surrounding fences.

No major structural problems are involved; the concern is limited to concrete surface defects. An engineering firm has been hired to evaluate what work is needed.

No closure of the library is planned other than the established holidays, December 23 through January 2.
