MEMBERS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY
Dear Colleagues: Our last meeting took place on a Dark and Stormy late afternoon, which may be why we failed to achieve a quorum; at least, that's what I'm telling my shaken chairmanly ego. Whatever the reason for that incident, it is with special fervor that I ask you to attend our next meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, at 3:30 p.m., in Garren Auditorium, Room 1105 in the Basic Science Building. The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents may be found on the Senate's Web page at: http://www-senate.ucsd.edu/assembly/agenda/050426.pdf, We will have the great pleasure of acting on two sets of nominations for Senate awards: the 2004-05 Distinguished Teaching Awards and the 2004-05 Faculty Research Lecturers. Additionally, the Assembly will be asked to consider approving proposals for two new graduate programs. A part-time program leading to the Master's of Advanced Study (M.A.S.) degree in Health Law, to be offered jointly by UCSD and California Western School of Law, is being proposed, as is the establishment of an Interdisciplinary Program in Human Development leading to the Ph.D. degree. For help in reaching the Web site or to obtain a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, please contact the Academic Senate Office at 534-3640. If at all times you prefer to receive a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, let us know, and we'll put you on our mailing list. If you cannot attend next week's meeting, please be sure to notify your alternate to do so in your stead. Your absence matters; last time, we missed the quorum by only four members. Essential business had to be turned over to the Senate Council; for the sake of the health and vitality of shared governance, let not this become a habit. I look forward to seeing you on the 22nd-weather permitting.
