SUBJECT:    New PPM 230-15 - Family Accommodations
Revised PPM 230-10 - Academic Leave Policy

I am pleased to announce the release of new and revised sections of the UCSD Policy and Procedure manual pertaining to family accommodations and leaves of absence. These policies reflect the improved family-friendly benefits that are now available to academic appointees at UCSD. The University is committed to assisting academics in balancing the needs of work and family, and it is my sincere hope that the changes announced today, which were made in response to recommendations by the 2001-02 Gender Equity Task Force, will result in greater utilization of family- friendly benefits by all academic appointees.

I am pleased to announce the revisions to the following UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual section, effective April 1, 2005:

PPM 230-10-Academic Leave Policy

This policy was revised to include new language implementing Academic Personnel Manual (APM) Section 133. In addition, the sections on Childbearing Leave, Parental Leave, and Active Service-Modified Duties have been moved to the new PPM section 230-15, Family Accommodations.

I am also pleased to announce the following new UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual section, effective April 1, 2005:

This policy was created to provide a comprehensive description of all family-friendly benefits in one convenient location.
