ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (including UCSD Healthcare)
ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Campus Accreditation

UCSD is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and every 10 years WASC evaluates the campus to make sure that our academic standards are being upheld and that appropriate institutional resources are being provided to meet our educational goals. Since 1998, when WASC last accredited UCSD, the process and standards by which universities are assessed have been substantially revised. The new approach emphasizes institutional self-study of issues germane to improving student learning on campus.

Two campus committees, the WASC Executive Steering Committee and the Senate-Administration Advisory Committee, both chaired by Mark Appelbaum, Associate Vice Chancellor-Undergraduate Education, lead our accreditation reaffirmation efforts. These committees will develop documents to be submitted to WASC in three phases between Fall 2005 and Spring 2009. If you are interested in finding out more about the accreditation process, the WASC accreditation handbook, campus documents, campus committee membership lists, and related resources may be found at http://assp.ucsd.edu/wasc/wasc.shtml. The website will be updated regularly to include additional documents and information as they become available.

If you have suggestions, questions, or concerns about the accreditation process, your comments are most welcome. Please email them to: accreditation@ucsd.edu.
