SUBJECT:    Staff Associations at UCSD

The University of California, San Diego fosters an inclusive, respectful and welcoming environment. We communicate these values in our Principles of Community, through Staff Education and Development courses, in the New Employee Orientation program, and in many UCSD publications. However, it is not enough to simply communicate the message. We must integrate these values into our practices.

A number of staff associations at UCSD assist in this effort. Through educational programs and regular monthly meetings, they help create a welcoming and nurturing environment for our diverse workforce, open channels of communication throughout the University, promote networking and support career development.

We strongly encourage supervisors to be flexible and permit employees to attend the meetings and programs of the associations as long as their participation does not interfere with their job responsibilities. Employees who wish to participate in any staff association function during scheduled work hours must obtain supervisory approval in advance.

For a list of recognized staff associations and contact information, see http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/staffassociations.

Also, you may contact the Human Resources Department's Equal Opportunity/Staff Affirmative Action Division at (858)534-6466 or email Linda Olvera (lolvera@ucsd.edu).
