Subject:    CNA Strike Update

We have received confirmation that today’s planned strike against University of California medical centers and clinics by the California Nurses Association has been stopped by court order.

The dedicated managers, physicians and staff at UCSD Medical Center have been making extensive preparations over the past few weeks to ensure the continuation of services in a safe and caring environment for our patients during the anticipated work stoppage. Thanks to these efforts, our community and the patients who depend upon us have been assured that they would have access to the medical care and services they need, despite the planned strike.

We understand that the CNA is calling for pickets and rallies to be held at both of our hospitals on today. Regardless of any labor activity that might take place in the coming weeks, our common priority will continue to be the health and well-being of our patients. We expect to return to the bargaining table soon, and we hope to resolve our remaining differences in an equitable and agreeable manner.

UCSD Medical Center plays a unique role in our region. Thanks to the leadership, dedication and teamwork of our exceptional staff and physicians, this institution is known locally and nationally for excellence in all of its missions.

We appreciate the important contributions and support of all of our employees, students and trainees, as we work together to improve the health of our community.
