ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Healthcare)

SUBJECT:    Official UCSD Mail Address for Incoming U.S. Postal Mail

Mail Services receives and delivers all UCSD incoming mail to hundreds of individual campus locations. It is extremely important that the proper address including mail code is used so that mail can be processed and delivered in a timely manner. Please inform individuals sending mail to UCSD to use the proper mailing address which includes the Gilman Drive address, "#" sign, mail code and Zip + 4. For UCSD, the "+4" is merely your four digit department mail code. By including the Zip + 4 numbers in addresses, the U.S. Postal Service can process mail more efficiently to UCSD. Use the following format to ensure the best service:

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO
NAME AND DEPARTMENT
9500 GILMAN DR. #(space) MAILCODE
LA JOLLA CA 92093 - XXXX (Zip + 4 - The last four digits repeat the department mail code)

The following is an example using this format:

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO
JOHN E DOE, SOCIOLOGY DEPT
9500 GILMAN DR. # 0533
LA JOLLA CA 92093-0533

An alternate street address may be used other than 9500 Gilman Drive for business purposes such as patient healthcare. The following are approved campus street addresses. They must still be used with the proper department name and Mail Code.

* 9500 Gilman Dr.

* 3855 Health Sciences Dr.

* 2910 La Jolla Village Dr.

* 3100 Gilman Dr.

* 10280 N. Torrey Pines Rd.

* 10300 N. Torrey Pines Rd.

* 8622 Discovery Way

* 9415 Campus Point Dr.

Mail received without the proper address can cause delays in delivery or, in extreme cases, such mail may be returned to sender. We need your help to get the word out to those individuals who send you mail. Please be sure to include your proper address with the Zip + 4 on all your departmental letterhead, envelopes and correspondence.

The personal incoming mail of staff and faculty should not be processed by Mail Services as this is an inappropriate use of University resources. Therefore, personal mail should not be addressed to be received on campus. Mail Services retains the right to return personal mail that is continually received.

Each department is responsible for forwarding or returning to the sender any mail for those who have moved to another campus location or left the University.

Our goal is to deliver your mail in a timely and efficient manner. We appreciate your cooperation in making this possible. If you have any questions, please call Fred Gomez at Mail Services, 534-1167 or go to the Mail Services Overview located in BLINK http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/mailservices.
