SUBJECT:    Dir. Nicholas Aguilar, Student Policies and Judicial Affairs

It is with much personal regret that I announce that Nicholas Aguilar, Director of Student Policies and Judicial Affairs, has informed me of his intention to retire, effective January 3, 2006.

Nick’s association with UCSD spans more than 35 years – first as an undergraduate in Revelle College and later, after completing law school at UC Davis, as a member of the Student Affairs senior management team for over 25 years. He has served the UCSD campus community in a number of positions: Director of Off-Campus Student Services, Director of the Special Services Center and, since 1983, as Director of Student Policies and Judicial Affairs. In addition to his formal duties, Nick has been an active advocate for diversity and increasing the presence of underrepresented students, staff and faculty at UCSD. He has also championed the cause of fair and equitable treatment of all students and staff. I will particularly miss his unique combination of dedication, perspectives, and advice.

Please join me in expressing appreciation and gratitude to Nick for his decades of service and invaluable contributions to UCSD, and in wishing him a wonderful retirement.
