SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Hopkins Drive and Voigt Lane

Project Description/Location

The Hopkins Parking Structure, currently in construction, will provide 1450 parking spaces to help meet the demands of several new capital projects located in the surrounding areas, such as the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology Building and the Computer Science and Engineering Building. The structure will also meet student parking requirements due to the growing enrollment as well as provide much needed parking capacity for evening events held at RIMAC. This project is scheduled for completion in June 2007. In addition, the San Diego Supercomputer Expansion is scheduled to begin construction in January 2006. This project will be comprised of administrative, research, and classroom space, as well as an expansion of the main computer room and is scheduled for completion in January 2008. Both projects are located on and near the northwest corner of Hopkins Drive and Voigt Lane.

Immediate Street Impacts

From September 2005 through June 2007, Hopkins Drive and Voigt Lane, in the area of the projects, will experience heavy construction traffic, traffic delays and closures.
