SUBJECT:    In Memoriam: Daniel J. Plummer, Ph.D.

On January 1, 2006, UCSD lost a distinguished alumnus and former colleague. Daniel J. Plummer, Ph.D. was killed by a falling tree while riding his bike in the Los Altos Hills in the California Bay Area.

Dr. Plummer received his M.A. and Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from UCSD in 1992. Following this, he served first as a postdoctoral fellow and then as a faculty member in UCSD's department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Plummer authored multiple research articles, on topics ranging from cognitive science/visual perception to visual acuity in HIV/AIDS patients. In 2001 and 2002, he was a senior research scientist with CAIDA (Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis) at SDSC. His career in data analysis carried him to additional research scientist positions in the Bay Area, where he continued his avocation as a champion cyclist with Team Spine.

San Diego area friends and former colleagues of Dr. Plummer are invited to a memorial gathering to be held on Wednesday, January 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the International Center Lounge at the University of California, San Diego.

Questions may be directed to Valerie Polichar, valerie@ucsd.edu, of ACS/Network Operations, or to Colleen Shannon, cmshannon@ucsd.edu, of CAIDA.
