Open House on Saturday, October 21

Open House 2006 is this Saturday, October 21, and I hope you are planning to join the campus community and our San Diego friends and neighbors in exploring UCSD and celebrating its achievement as a great academic institution. This year’s event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the upper campus with a UCSD ROCKS! theme symbolizing the array of exciting activities available.

Our Human Resources department will hold an extensive Career Fair, while Admissions and Relations with Schools will offer tours and workshops for prospective students and their parents. Jacobs School of Engineering will present a cutting-edge mix of entertainment ranging from robots to race cars, while the School of Medicine and Medical Center will offer free screenings and information, and Scripps Institution of Oceanography will have a series of ocean-oriented displays.

A first-time “battle of the bands” will feature college pep and marching bands from UC Irvine, SDSU, Pomona College and UCSD. A variety of talented local bands will provide live music and some 13 food booths sponsored by Student Organizations will offer fare ranging from potstickers to root beer floats. Additionally, the UCSD Alumni Association will sponsor a beer-and-bratwurst lunch featuring the sounds of three bands.

All events and parking are free. Parking is encouraged on the East Campus lot, where shuttle service will be provided. For more information visit http://openhouse.ucsd.edu
