SUBJECT:    Travel and Entertainment-Rate Increases for Meals

The Office of the President announced new rates for the maximum allowable per person amounts for meals and incidental expenses (M&IE) for travel, and for meals and light refreshments for entertainment and business meetings that occur on and after October 1, 2006.

TRAVEL MEALS - The daily M&IE cap for travel within the continental United States for over 24 hours but less than 30 days has been increased to $64. The M&IE cap for travel that is greater than 12 hours but less than 24 hours has been increased to $42. These amounts are not per diems, but rather limitations on actual expenses incurred that will be reimbursed.

UCSD's on-line travel expense reporting application, MyTravel, automatically applies either the old or new cap based on the start date of the event. For more information on travel subsistence including M&IE and per diem, please see http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/meals.

ENTERTAINMENT AND BUSINESS MEETING MEALS - The following rates are the new per person maximum amounts for entertainment and business meetings:

$26 Breakfast
$38 Lunch
$64 Dinner
$17 Light Refreshments

These amounts include tax, service, and delivery charges. For more information on entertainment, please see http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/entmeals.
