SUBJECT:    Approved Changes to Student Wages

In January, you were notified of the proposed salary range increases for the student classifications of Assistant II-IV (Title Codes 4919-4921). These increases have been approved. The realignment of the salary ranges will be implemented as follows:

Effective 3/1/2006 (for monthly-paid employees) and 2/26/06 (for bi-weekly-paid employees):

4921 Assistant II: $7.00 - $9.32
4920 Assistant III: $7.50 - $12.42
4919 Assistant IV: $10.35 - $20.70>

Effective 1/1/2007:

4921 Assistant II: $7.50 - $10.00
4920 Assistant III: $8.75 - $14.48
4919 Assistant IV: $10.68 - $21.36

Effective 1/1/2008:

4921 Assistant II: $8.00 - $10.66
4920 Assistant III: $9.50 - $15.72
4919 Assistant IV: $11.00 – $22.00
4922 Assistant I: no longer in use.

These classifications have “By-Agreement” rates. Therefore, individuals do not receive an automatic rate increase unless an increase is required to bring their rate up to the minimum of the range established for the classification. Student rates that are active in PPS as of 3/1/06 (or 2/26/06 biweekly), and are below the new minimums shown above, must be adjusted by departments to the new minimums.

Within range salary increases may be provided to individuals in these classes at the discretion of the department. The following criteria is provided to guide departments in determining the timing and amount of any increase they recommend.

a) In accordance with Staff Personnel Policy 30 (III) (F) students employed in casual-restricted positions are eligible for a merit increase after completing twelve months on pay status since the most recent date of hire or last within range increase.

b) The increase may be any amount up to a maximum of 3.5%.

If you have any questions regarding the above, you may contact:

Christine Alexander, Student Employment Coordinator
Career Services Center, Job Opportunities Program, Mail Code 0335 mailto:calexander@ucsd.edu

Affected student employees should be made aware of this announcement.
