ACADEMIC SENATE: SAN DIEGO DIVISION

April 19, 2006

MEMBERS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE ASSEMBLY

SUBJECT:    April 25, 2006 Meeting

Dear Colleagues:

Our fifth meeting of the 2005-06 academic year is scheduled for Tuesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m., in Garren Auditorium, Room 1105 in the Basic Science Building. The Notice of Meeting (agenda) and all pertinent documents may be found on the Senate's Web page at: http://www-senate.ucsd.edu/assembly/agenda/current.htm

We will have the great pleasure of acting on two sets of nominations for Senate awards: the 2005-06 Distinguished Teaching Awards and the 2005-06 Faculty Research Lecturers.

One important item of business will be consideration of nominations for vacancies on the Committee on Committees. I direct your attention to page 10 of the agenda packet, which reflects the status of nominations to date. Nominations may also be made from the floor. Should you wish to nominate a colleague, please make sure that the individual is willing to serve if elected.

In addition, the Assembly will be asked to approve proposed amendments to the UCSD Policy on Integrity of Scholarship; the Committee on Educational Policy has identified some areas of implementation that require adjustment.

Professor Robert Fitzgerald will be our guest speaker and will inform us about the latest research developments on the use of "Long Lived Calcium Isotope for Early Cancer Diagnosis". Having recently heard a colleague of Professor Fitzgerald's speak on this topic, I can promise you a fascinating presentation.

For help in reaching the Web site or to obtain a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, please contact the Academic Senate Office at 858-534-3640. If at all times you prefer to receive a paper copy of the Notice of Meeting, let us know, and we'll put you on our mailing list.

If you cannot attend next week's meeting, please be sure to notify your alternate to do so in your stead. Your absence matters.

I look forward to seeing you on the 25th.

Sincerely,

Jean-Bernard Minster, Chair
Academic Senate, San Diego Division
