OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES
April 7, 2006
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (including UCSD Medical Center)
SUBJECT: | Clerical Unit Wage Implementation |
The new wage rates pursuant to the recently ratified collective
bargaining agreement for Clerical employees are scheduled to be posted
in the Payroll Personnel System (PPS) on Monday, April 10, 2006, and the
new pay rates will be reflected in the May 1st paycheck for employees
paid on a monthly basis and on May 3rd for employees paid on a biweekly
basis. A special check will be issued the week of May 15th to employees
who are eligible for retroactive pay. In order to be eligible for the
retroactive pay, an employee must remain in the Clerical Unit through
the payout. The applicable contract provision requires payment within
120 days of ratification, which has a deadline of June 15th.
The contract provides for a range adjustment, a lump sum bonus payment,
an increase in shift differential pay, new steps, and an additional
vacation day for selected employees. These matters are being addressed
as follows:
RANGE ADJUSTMENT:
A 3.5% range adjustment will be implemented, except for Library
Assistants. Library Assistants will receive an 8.6% range adjustment.
In both cases, the increases are retroactive to October 1, 2005 for
monthly paid employees and September 25, 2005 for biweekly paid
employees. LUMP SUM BONUS:
A $180 lump sum bonus, prorated by the appointment percentage and funded
from the Incentive Award Program assessment pool, will be paid to
employees who were in the bargaining unit on December 15, 2004 and
February 15, 2006, and who remain in the unit through the payout (when
the program is run). We are awaiting a program from the Office of the
President to implement this portion of the contract. A pay date for the
lump sum bonus will be announced when the program is received.
SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL INCREASE:
The increase in shift differential pay to 0.15 per hour was effective
March 1, 2006 for monthly paid employees and February 26, 2006 for
biweekly paid employees, and was implemented last month.
NEW STEPS:
VACATION DAY:
Employees who transferred out of the Clerical Unit between December 15,
2004 and February 15, 2006, and who did not receive any previous bonus
days, will be eligible to receive eight hours of paid leave. The Office
of the President is working on a program to identify those employees.
Questions regarding this wage implementation should be directed to Ray
Rodriguez, Compensation Manager, at (858) 534-0986 or via email at
rrodriguez@ucsd.edu.
