SUBJECT:    Retirement of Sherman George - Director, Media Center

It is with deep appreciation and sincere regret that I announce the retirement of Sherman George as Director of the Media Center, effective June 29, 2006. Sherman began his career at UCSD in 1976 when he was hired to provide technical support to the film production program. He assumed the role of Director in 1983.

Sherman's leadership and breadth of knowledge of media technologies have made a tremendous impact on the Media Center and University. Under Sherman's leadership, the Center has evolved from a small student production support facility to a full-service technological resource center for the entire campus. The Media Center serves as a digital production facility networked into every classroom on campus, provides media equipment and services to the campus community, technical support for UCSD TV and UCTV, and operates a distance learning operation that bridges great distances to bring students and scholars together.

Please join me congratulating Sherman on the occasion of his retirement and for his thirty outstanding years of service to UCSD.
