OFFICE OF THE SENIOR VICE CHANCELLOR -
ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

June 9, 2006

ALL ACADEMICS (including SIO and School of Medicine)

SUBJECT:    Associate Vice Chancellor - Academic Personnel (50%)

In 2003, after consultation with the Academic Senate, deans, and department chairs, it was decided to establish a half-time position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel (AVC-AP). However, the hiring was postponed due to budgetary cuts at that time.

Given our continuing growth and numerous initiatives to streamline and improve the academic personnel process here at UCSD, it has been decided to proceed with the hiring at this time. The AVC-AP will play a key role by both providing guidance and leadership and maintaining consultative processes as we consider these initiatives. The Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will continue to have sole responsibility for faculty appointment and promotion actions.

The new AVC-AP position will be similar to those on other UC campuses. The job description for the AVC-AP position follows this announcement and is also available on the Academic Affairs Website:

http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/offices/adeo/recruitment/other.htm

In order to qualify for the position of AVC-AP, candidates must hold an appointment as full professor in one of UCSD's academic departments.

Applications and nominations are invited for the position.

If you would like to apply for the position, please send a statement of interest via electronic mail to Senior Vice Chancellor Chandler, c/o Gillian Hemingway (gchemingway@ucsd.edu). If you would like to nominate someone, please send your nomination to the email address above. You need not contact the individual to ascertain if he or she is willing to be considered as a candidate. All nominees will be contacted, in confidence, to discuss their willingness to have their names put forward for consideration.

Nominations and applications received by Friday, June 30, 2006, will receive full consideration.
