SUBJECT:    UCSD Graduate & Professional Student Survey Report

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is pleased to announce the release of the General Report on the 2005 Graduate and Professional Student Experience Survey ( http://gsa.ucsd.edu ). This survey, the first comprehensive assessment of the Graduate and Professional student experience at UCSD, was written and administered in 2005 by the GSA in collaboration with OGSR and 13 other University units and offices. Over 37% of the Graduate and Professional student body participated, and the report and survey offer a wealth of data, including the following:

*Almost two-thirds would choose UCSD again, but over one-third have "seriously" considered quitting, and only 10% feel connected to UCSD.

*Nearly two-thirds are satisfied with their academic experience at UCSD, but only 35% feel a sense of belonging at UCSD.

*Almost half of Graduate and Professional students are sometimes or frequently overwhelmed by stress due to their programs, careers, or finances, and over 10% experience symptoms of clinical depression.

*Nearly 75% of Graduate and Professional students are considering non-academic careers, but less than one-third feel they receive adequate advice on these careers from their programs.

Please make the time to read this important document.
