SUBJECT:    UCSD Policy on the Use of Animals in Research and Teaching
PPM 100-6

I am pleased to announce the release of a revised UCSD Policy on the Use of Animals in Research and Teaching. The University recognizes the importance of the use of animals in research and teaching and is committed to maintaining high standards for the care and use of animals. UCSD has adopted the “U.S. Government Principles for the Utilization and Care of Vertebrate Animals Used in Testing, Research, and Training” as its own.

Principal Investigators and other researchers responsible for the use of animals are subject to the Investigator Assurances listed in this policy. All individuals involved in the use of animals must adhere to the principles and requirements for the use of animals.

The policy can be accessed on the web at:

If you have any questions concerning this policy, please contact Marilyn Torchia, Director Animal Welfare Program, at mtorchia@ucsd.edu.
