Subject:    Associate Vice Chancellor - Finance and Administration for
Health Sciences

I regret to announce that Tom Jackiewicz, Associate Vice Chancellor - Finance and Administration for Health Sciences, will be leaving UCSD to become the Chief Operating Officer of the Columbia University Medical Center in New York.

Tom is an outstanding administrator and respected colleague who will be greatly missed at UCSD. Tom earned his masters in public health at Columbia and he and his family are from the East, so this is a homecoming of sorts as well as an opportunity to advance in his career. He will be joining the Columbia team full time in early January 2007.

Since joining the Health Sciences as Chief of Staff in 2002, Tom has overseen finance, space management, contracts and grants, information technology and program planning for the School of Medicine and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as for the UCSD Medical Group. He has been responsible for coordinating and implementing many academic, research and clinical initiatives. Tom developed and implemented faculty, chair and clinical enterprise incentive plans and played a leadership role in planning and occupancy of the Leichtag Family Foundation Biomedical Research Building and the Rebecca and John Moores UCSD Cancer Center and has successfully managed a number of special projects of vital importance to the Health Sciences.

Tom has made a tremendous contribution to Health Sciences during his time at UCSD. One of his key accomplishments was the development of an efficient and service oriented administrative structure. Tom also was instrumental in the recruitment and development of our superb staff. I am confident this staff will ensure that our operations continue to run smoothly during this interim period.

Please join me in congratulating Tom and wishing him the best in his new endeavor.
