October 15, 2007

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Medical Center)

SUBJECT:    Campus Emergency Response Exercise

Tomorrow the campus will be conducting an emergency response exercise designed to provide an opportunity for staff, students and faculty to practice response to an active-shooter event. Off-campus responders from the San Diego Police Department, fire department and emergency medical services, as well as our medical centers, will also participate in this important exercise. In light of recent tragedies on college campuses involving acts of violence, I encourage you to review campus procedures for response to such incidents. More information can be found at http://www-ehs.ucsd.edu/emerg/response/violence.html. In conjunction with the exercise, we will test the campus-wide emergency notification system. If you have registered your phone to receive emergency notifications, you will receive a test message during the exercise. You can register your phone with the system at

If you need any assistance regarding emergency preparedness efforts, or have any questions concerning the exercise, please contact Phillip Van Saun, Manager of Emergency Services within the department of Environment, Health and Safety, at (858) 534-1064.
