OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR -
HUMAN RESOURCES

October 26, 2007

KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (excluding UCSD Medical Center)

SUBJECT:    Staffing During the Campus Closure

During this past week, UCSD staff continued to display the can-do spirit, dedication, and selflessness that characterize their excellence. The tireless efforts of staff who continued to keep essential operations running, along with staff who provided much needed support services to the campus in response to the hardships caused by the wildfires, have been exemplary and inspiring.

For those non-represented staff who were scheduled to work but could not due to the campus closure this week, emergency paid time off is being granted. For each day that a staff member was scheduled to work but could not between October 22, 2007 and October 26, 2007, a paid emergency day will be applied so that there will be no loss in pay for staff members who were scheduled to work.

Non-represented staff members who worked during the closure will be paid for the time worked and in addition will receive one day of paid leave for each day worked, subject to the approval of their supervisors. The days must be used by staff no later than April 30, 2008 and scheduled with supervisory approval.

Human Resources is currently in the process of notifying and discussing this program with the appropriate unions. We will keep you posted on the status of these discussions.

Additionally, campus departments may recognize employees for their services during the closure through their respective incentive award programs.

Questions regarding time off related to the wildfires should be directed to Jenni Leibman, Director of Employee Relations, Policy Development, and Work Life at (858) 534-4136 or jleibman@ucsd.edu.
