SUBJECT:    Staffing During the Campus Closure - Update

The notice distributed on Friday, October 26, 2007 described the manner for handling compensation and paid time off for non-represented staff during the campus closure. The same terms and conditions in the notice have been agreed to for employees represented by the following unions: AFSCME, CUE, FUPOA, SETC, and UPTE.

For staff who were scheduled to work but could not due to the campus closure last week, emergency paid time off is being granted. For each day that a staff member was scheduled to work but could not between October 22, 2007 and October 26, 2007, a paid emergency day will be applied so that there will be no loss in pay for staff members who were scheduled to work.

Staff members who worked during the closure will be paid for the time worked and in addition will receive one day of paid leave for each day worked, subject to the approval of their supervisors. The days must be used by staff no later than April 30, 2008 and scheduled with supervisory approval.

Human Resources is currently in the process of discussing the same proposed program with the following unions: AFT, CNA, and UAW. Employees represented by these unions can check the status of the proposal at

Questions regarding time off related to the wildfires should be directed to Jenni Leibman, Director of Employee Relations, Policy Development, and Work/Life at (858) 534-4136 or jleibman@ucsd.edu.
