Appreciation Reception for Chief Diversity Officer Jorge Huerta

Please join me on Wednesday, December 12, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. to recognize Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) Jorge Huerta, who will complete his three-year term as CDO on December 31, 2007. The informal reception in Room 111A of the Chancellor’s Complex will provide the campus with an opportunity to show our appreciation for the achievements of Professor Huerta in establishing the Chief Diversity Officer’s office and furthering our diversity efforts.

Among his achievements as CDO, Professor Huerta initiated and conducted sessions with Academic Departments, in concert with Academic Affairs, to discuss faculty diversity in the post-Proposition 209 era. He co-chaired key campus-wide work groups that studied faculty diversity, services to the disabled, and our yield for undergraduate admissions. In addition, he strengthened UC San Diego’s connections with regional and national organizations that focus on diversity.

A leading authority on contemporary Chicana/o and US Latina/o theatre, Professor Huerta is also a professional director who has edited three anthologies of plays and written a number of landmark books. Earlier this year, he was selected to receive the Lifetime Achievement in Educational Theatre Award from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. Professor Huerta will return to the faculty in the Theatre & Dance Department to teach and to focus on writing a new book.
