UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION February 27, 2007
ALL UCSD GENERAL CAMPUS AND SIO FACULTY KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF
I am pleased to invite proposals for Instructional Improvement Program funding to support faculty projects to enhance undergraduate instruction. Proposals for 2007-08 funding will be reviewed by the Instructional Improvement Committee, and the Senior Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs will make the final allocation decisions. The committee looks for projects that can improve the quality of undergraduate education, impact many students, and increase interactions between faculty and students, particularly at the lower division level. Faculty are encouraged to develop comprehensive strategies to improve undergraduate education within their departments or academic units. Proposals to develop interdisciplinary programs or courses and projects to incorporate international content into the curriculum are also invited. Additionally, faculty experiments with new technologies or new teaching approaches are welcome, including proposals to develop on-line or web-based instruction. Individual proposals are typically funded at the $1K - $3K level. In addition, we anticipate that it will be possible to support one or two larger projects (up to $10K per proposal) with the potential to make a more significant impact on undergraduate education. Awards will be made in the form of grants to cover development expenses, including, but not limited to, materials costs, summer graduate student support, and support for technical assistance.
The application deadline is FRIDAY, APRIL 6, 2007. Awards will be
announced in Spring Quarter, and the funds will be available after July 1, 2007. The application form is available at: General criteria and program guidelines are provided on the Academic Affairs web site. Please feel free to contact Marie Sidney (X4-0097; sidney@ucsd.edu) or Carmen Rodriguez (X2-0226; carodriguez@ucsd.edu) with any questions.
