Appointment of Director Staff Ed and Development

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Grace Balch as Director of Staff Education and Development effective immediately.

Grace's impressive record of professional experience and demonstrated excellence in program development and training, organizational development and consulting, team facilitation, and instructional technology make her a superb choice to lead UCSD's staff training efforts. Grace joined the Staff Education team in 1994, having advanced to the position of Manager/Curator in the UCSD Art and Architecture Library after starting her career in the Library in 1985. Grace has served as an Adjunct Professor of Behavioral Science and Religious Studies at Palomar College. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management and the American Society of Training and Development. She holds BA and MA degrees from San Diego State University.

Grace's many accomplishments with Staff Education include her exemplary work as an instructor, the identification and implementation of the Element K e-learning service, serving as the Human Resources Department chair for the web committee that developed the People tab for BLINK, providing an array of organizational development services to teams and individuals, and strong participation in the development and coordination of campus and UC system training initiatives. She served as the Interim Director of Staff Education since July.

I am confident that Grace will provide outstanding leadership to this important area of sustaining and developing staff excellence.
