SUBJECT:    Director Search for the Center for Astrophysics and Space Sciences (CASS)

A search is now underway for the position of Director of the Center for Astrophysics and Space Sciences (CASS), an Organized Research Unit at UCSD. The Director will report to the Vice Chancellor - Research.

Responsibilities of the Director include:

* Intellectual leadership and direction for the Center's research, educational, and campus-wide service activities,

* Administrative and managerial oversight of the Center,

* Promotion of the scholarly activities of the Center at UCSD.

Qualifications include superior record of teaching and research, familiarity with UCSD astrophysics and space sciences programs, some record of activity associated with CASS, and demonstrated contributions to the larger campus community, including efforts to promote diversity, equal opportunity, inclusiveness, and UCSD Principles of Community.

Eligibility is restricted to those individuals holding tenured faculty appointments at UCSD. It is anticipated that the initial appointment will be for a five-year term from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2012.
