HEALTH SCIENCES DEAN, SCHOOL OF MEDICINE June 11, 2007
KEY ADMINISTRATORS/KEY SUPPORT STAFF (including UCSD Medical Center) UCSD HEALTH SCIENCES FACULTY
I am delighted to announce that Tom Jackiewicz, former Associate Vice Chancellor – Finance and Administration for UCSD Health Sciences, will be returning to accept the new position of Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Financial Officer - Health Sciences, effective July 1. Tom left UCSD earlier this year to join Columbia University Medical Center in New York as Chief Operating Officer. With some of the recent changes in the Health Sciences administration, and the planned retirement of our current Chief Financial Officer, David Sakai, we recognized the great value of re-recruiting Tom as a member of the Health Sciences senior administration. In his new position, he will be the senior administrator reporting to the Vice Chancellor-Health Sciences and will represent the Vice Chancellor in his absence, and will be responsible for leading the development and execution of strategic and business plans of the Health Sciences. He will also have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of the Health Sciences’ financial strategies, budgets, and systems of financial reporting and controls to achieve financial and budgetary goals and objectives, including the clinical enterprise. Tom is an outstanding administrator and respected colleague with unique skills and experience. During his previous tenure at UCSD he was responsible for finance, space management, contracts and grants, information technology and program planning for the School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, and the UCSD Medical Group. He coordinated and operationalized many important academic, research and clinical initiatives. He played a leadership role in planning and occupancy of the Leichtag Biomedical Research Building and the Moores UCSD Cancer Center, and successfully managed a number of special projects of vital importance to the Health Sciences. We have begun a number of major new initiatives to help us achieve our goal of creating a premier academic medical center to serve the region. These include a strategic planning process for our clinical enterprise that will provide a blueprint for future program enhancement and growth, and the planning and construction of the Sulpizio Family Cardiovascular Center, a new inpatient bed tower for UCSD Medical Center-East Campus, and new medical education and research facilities. Tom’s leadership will be invaluable in helping to ensure the success of these projects and others. Tom earned his masters in public health at Columbia. During his career he has directed business and financial operations at the University of Pennsylvania, Oregon Health Sciences University and Stanford University. Please join me in welcoming Tom back as a member of the UCSD team.
