ALL ACADEMICS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Welcome Convocation

Last year, the Welcome Week and Beyond Committee designed the first UC San Diego Welcome Convocation and designated a theme, “Uncommon Scholars, Global Citizens,” to symbolize what is distinctive about a UC San Diego education. The event proved to be a great success and an excellent opportunity to kick off the academic experience for freshmen and transfer students. We are very pleased that we will continue the tradition this year.

We hope that you will join us at the second annual UC San Diego Welcome Convocation on Sunday, September 23, at 3:30 p.m. on the Sun God Lawn. It will consist of a short program of about 45 minutes with the Associated Students president, Professor Susan Shirk, as well as an alumnus speaker. A reception from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m. will follow the program on the lawn outside the Faculty club.

The Welcome Convocation is the first opportunity to welcome new students. At the event, you will have the opportunity to meet new students and encourage their active participation in academic programs, research, community service, and outreach activities.

We hope to see you on Sunday, September 23, at 3:30 p.m.
