I am pleased to announce the search committee to identify candidates for the position of Vice Chancellor - External Relations. David Brenner, Vice Chancellor - Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine, and I will co-chair the search. The successful candidate will be creative with a strong, demonstrated record of leadership of a diverse range of departmental units. He/she will display commitment, intellectual curiosity, collegiality, and personal integrity in working with faculty, staff, students and administrators, and will have a record of success in working with international, federal, state, and local constituencies in advancing the resource, political, and public policy objectives of a complex organization. The Vice Chancellor must have a strong commitment to and effectiveness in an academic shared governance environment. He/she will be a proven strategist with management expertise to serve as steward of assets and resources, and the ability to create opportunity from UC San Diego's unique history. Above all, the Vice Chancellor must be a proven leader who is a strong, skilled manager with an ability to motivate employees to do their best work. The Committee will conduct a national search with the assistance of consultant Alberto Pimentel of Storbeck / Pimentel & Associates of Monterey Park, CA, and Media, PA.
