ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UCSD (excluding UCSD Medical Center)

SUBJECT:    September is Campus Preparedness Month

The campus is promoting September as campus preparedness month. During this time of national reflection on the tragic events of September 11, 2001, I encourage you to dedicate time out of your busy schedule to prepare yourself, your staff, and your family for natural and human-caused disasters.

This is an excellent opportunity to review with colleagues and family what to do in the event of a disaster. To assist in this endeavor, EH&S is hosting an “Emergency and Safety Expo 2007” on Thursday, September 13, at Price Center Ballroom B, from 10 am to 2 pm. Speakers from the American Red Cross, EH&S, and others will be on hand to present information on emergency preparedness and safety at work and at home. Please take this opportunity to learn more about what you can do for yourself and your family to be ready for an emergency. For more information, see the Blink page, Emergency and Safety Expo 2007 at http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/emergencyexpo

To further prepare the campus, an emergency response exercise will be conducted on Tuesday, October 16th. The exercise will be based on an active-shooter scenario. I encourage you to review the Campuswide Emergencies guidance on Blink at http://emergency.ucsd.edu/ to learn more about how to respond to an act of violence, or other emergency on campus.

If you need any assistance regarding emergency preparedness, please contact Phillip Van Saun, Manager of Emergency Services in Environment, Health and Safety, at pvansaun@ucsd.edu
