SUBJECT:    Search for Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) for the San Diego
Supercomputer Center

In response to recommendations from the 5-year ORU review of the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), advice from SDSC's Executive Committee, and consultation with Senior Vice Chancellor Paul Drake, I am pleased to announce the creation of the position of Associate Director, with a working title of Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), for the SDSC. This position will report to the Director of the SDSC and have responsibilities for strengthening SDSC's ability to contribute substantially to the research and education missions of UCSD; the CSO will also promote linkages to the UC System and the State of California. The CSO provides leadership for campus Principal Investigators at the SDSC who work on cyber-enabled research and education through extramurally-funded projects and collaborations.

The search for the SDSC CSO will be confined to the UCSD campus, and candidates must hold tenured faculty appointments. The CSO will be appointed at 75% for a 2-year term that is renewable following appropriate review.

If you would like to apply for this position, please send a statement of interest via electronic mail to Jolene Guilliams at jolene@sdsc.edu by February 14, 2008. If you would like to nominate someone, please send your nomination to this same email address. You need not contact the individual to ascertain whether he or she is willing to be considered as a candidate. All nominees will be contacted, in confidence, to discuss their willingness to have their names put forward for consideration.

The position is also posted on the Academic Affairs web site:
