Associate Vice Chancellor University Development

I am pleased to announce that Julianne Larsen has been named Associate Vice Chancellor University Development, effective immediately, and will serve as a core member of the Vice Chancellor for External Relations’ senior management team. In this role, Juli will provide strategic leadership for UC San Diego’s private fundraising efforts in support of the General Campus and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and she will oversee the central advancement programs needed to support both academic and Health Sciences development operations. In partnership with academic, donor and volunteer leaders and with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences Development, she will help define development priorities and recommend appropriate courses of action to increase philanthropic support for the university.

Juli brings significant senior advancement experience to this challenge. For the past year, she has served as Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for University Development at UC San Diego while also leading General Campus development operations. She joined UCSD in 2003 and was a key contributor to the university’s successful $1 billion campaign, “Imagine What’s Next.”

Prior to UC San Diego, Juli has served as Vice President of Institutional Advancement at the New England Conservatory of Music and Associate Director of Development for Individual Gifts at San Francisco Opera. She has held senior development positions at the University of San Francisco, University of Missouri, University of Pittsburgh, and University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She holds a BA from Nebraska Wesleyan University and has done graduate work in musicology at University of North Carolina.

Juli’s breadth of development experience in many different environments, coupled with her deep experience of and commitment to UC San Diego, will serve us well in the challenging times ahead.
