Assistant Vice Chancellor - Auxiliary and Plant Services

Following an extensive national search, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Russell Thackston as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services, effective immediately. In this role Russ will provide executive leadership to a diverse group of support service departments, including Facilities Management, UCSD Bookstore, Transportation and Parking Services, Early Childhood Education Center, Campus Research Machine Shop, and Imprints Copy Services.

Russ has been serving as Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Auxiliary and Plant Services since Gary Matthews vacated the position to become the Vice Chancellor for Resource Management and Planning. Prior to that Russ served as the Director of Facilities Management since joining UCSD in 2003. Russ has an impressive track record of accomplishments, with over 28 years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, construction and maintenance of large multi-facility, multi-client complexes, both domestic and overseas. During his tenure as Interim Vice Chancellor, he has effectively led this division, ensuring continuity of services while advancing many important strategic initiatives.
