SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Myers Drive and Myers Loop Closure

Project Description/Location:

On December 15, 2008, the traffic loop and parking area at Myers Loop that is immediately west of the Student Services Facility and immediately east of the Chancellor’s office complex will permanently close. This space, identified as the “Town Square”, has long been anticipated in our Master Plan and the University Center/Sixth College Neighborhood Planning Study. Town Square was designed as a vibrant, pedestrian friendly, vehicular free area that will accommodate a multitude of program uses, such as the future location of the Farmer’s Market. With the recent completion of the Price Center expansion and the earlier completion of the Student Services facility, pedestrian traffic in the area has grown enormously. For the safety of everyone the time has now come to close the loop area to all but pedestrians.

Other accommodations will include the relocation of Handicap Parking spaces and re-assignment of parking spaces in Lot P412.

Immediate Street Impacts:

Beginning December 1, 2008 to January 5, 2009 (possibly longer due to weather delays), work in various areas around University Center will begin on parking relocations. This work will not impact vehicular traffic and will be controlled by flagmen or traffic control.
