SUBJECT:    Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Each year on the fourth Thursday of April, employees and employers across the country participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. This special day focuses our nation’s attention on creating opportunities for girls and boys to share and communicate their expectations for the future. For 2008, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day takes place on Thursday, April 24.

Founded by the Ms. Foundation for Women, Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day has evolved over the years to provide families with activities that strengthen the connections between education and work, and the relationships between parents and their children. UC San Diego will again honor this day, although the university will not arrange specific activities through the Women's Center.

In order to take part in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 24, employees are asked to discuss their participation in advance with their supervisor. Employees approved to participate by taking their child/children to work at UC San Diego may receive 2 hours of administrative leave with pay. Participating children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Supervisors are asked to grant employees 2 hours of administrative leave with pay when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

Information that may guide activities around the theme of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day may be found at http://www.daughtersandsonstowork.org/.
