SUBJECT:    Appointment of Scott Barton as Principal of the Preuss School

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Barton as Principal of the Preuss School, effective June 1, 2008. Scott has served as Acting Principal for the past eight months, and previously had served as Dean of Students for eight years and as a founding faculty member at the Preuss School.

Scott has more than 27 years experience working as an academic administrator and teacher, and has shown strong leadership and management skills during his time as Acting Principal. His knowledge, background and tenure at Preuss School uniquely qualify him for this position, and I am delighted with his commitment to ongoing collaboration with the faculty, staff, students, parents and friends of the Preuss School. We are entering a new era in the School’s history, and Scott will provide exceptional leadership as we further strengthen management processes and communication with key stakeholders.

Scott has an administrative credential, a teaching credential, and a bachelor’s degree, all from San Diego State University, and a master’s degree in computer education from USIU/Alliant University. He previously served as a resource teacher and ASB advisor at Hoover High School in San Diego from 1990 to 1999, and also had been a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Wangenheim Junior High School in San Diego.

Today’s announcement culminates a national search which began in January 2008. I am grateful to the Search Committee, co-chaired by Professor Peter Gourevitch and Vice Chancellor Penny Rue, and for the assistance of Bud Mehan of CREATE and the Preuss Board of Directors, chaired by Professor Cecil Lytle.

Please join me in congratulating Scott on this latest achievement.
