SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - Structural and Materials Engineering
Site Clearance

Project Description/Location:

The new Structural and Materials Engineering Building will be located south of Matthews Lane and Voigt Drive and west and north of Lyman Lane as it curves at its eastern end. This building will provide 110,000 ASF of additional instructional and research space for the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Department of Visual Arts. To make way for the construction of this project scheduled for November 2008 the existing buildings and parking lot will be removed.

Immediate Street Impacts:

Beginning as early as July 24th and continuing into October the site area will be turned over to the Demolition Contractor. At that time Parking Lot P403 will be made inaccessible as Buildings 510, 515, 516, 517, 518, 519, and 520 are disassembled. Surrounding street impacts will be minimal and traffic control will be provided when any temporary lane blockage is required. This is anticipated to be confined to the early morning hours prior to 8:00 AM.

If you have any questions, please contact the Project Manager Jay W. Smith (534-5343) or Project Specialist Gretchen Nell (534-0624). We greatly appreciate your patience during these construction activities.
