Appointment of Assistant Dean of Social Sciences

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Joanna Mancusi as Assistant Dean of Social Sciences, effective July 1, 2008. In this capacity Joanna will serve as divisional chief of staff and lead administrative officer, overseeing resource management, academic personnel, and allocation and strategic planning for the division. Joanna brings with her extensive campus experience in a variety of divisions and positions. She has demonstrated leadership and skills that make her ideally suited for this position.

From 2001 until her appointment as Assistant Dean, Joanna served as the first Business Officer for the newly formed Division of Biological Sciences, formerly the Department of Biology, where she provided executive level leadership for the Division's business office, and served as principal adviser to the section Chairs, Associate Dean for Operations and Associate Dean for Education. From 1998-2001, she was MSO in the Department of Cognitive Science. Prior to that, she served as MSO of the Center for Research in Language. Joanna has also held positions in the departments of Computer Science & Engineering, Neurosciences, Biology, and the University Bookstore.

Joanna received her Bachelors degree in Literature at UC San Diego. Since joining the campus staff in 1985, Joanna has provided exemplary service as a member on numerous committees and workgroups, including the ABA Executive Committee, ABOG Steering Committee, ABOG Program Co-Chair, Sharecase Committee, and as a founding member of the ORU Business Administrators.

When not in the workplace, Joanna can be found in the swimming pool or representing the UCSD Pedal Club on the bike path pedalling to work. Please join me in welcoming Joanna as Assistant Dean.
